The BepiColombo spacecraft is on the final leg of its multi-year journey to Mercury, the smallest planet in the solar system, with mission controllers now preparing for what experts describe as a tricky orbital insertion procedure. The joint mission between the European Space Agency and Japan's space agency JAXA has been traveling since its 2018 launch, conducting multiple gravitational assists to slow its approach toward the scorching inner planet.
