Bersama suspends Nik Nazmi for three months over Jais incident

KUALA LUMPUR — Parti Bersama Malaysia has moved to suspend its vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad from all party-related activities for a three-month period starting October 20, the party announced Thursday.

The disciplinary action follows an incident involving the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department, though specific details of the matter remain unclear. The suspension bars the Setiawan Member of Parliament from participating in official party functions, meetings and representations during the prescribed period.

The party's decision reflects its commitment to maintaining internal discipline and standards among its leadership. Nik Nazmi, a prominent figure within Bersama Malaysia, will be eligible to resume full party duties upon completion of the suspension term.

Bersama Malaysia, a component of the Pakatan Harapan coalition, has not released further clarification regarding the underlying circumstances of the disciplinary measure. The suspension comes amid ongoing scrutiny of political conduct and ethical standards among Malaysian lawmakers and party officials.
