Bersatu lawmaker questions Selangor government cooperation deal

Nurul Syazwani Noh, a Bersatu member of the Selangor state assembly, has expressed concern over a working arrangement between her party and the state government, claiming she was not informed of the decision beforehand.

The lawmaker said that while cooperation between Bersatu and the state administration could benefit constituents, such collaboration should not necessitate the party relinquishing its formal opposition status in the assembly.

"Working together for the people should not mean Bersatu giving up its role as the opposition," Noh said, highlighting the distinction between policy cooperation and parliamentary positioning.

The statement underscores internal tensions within Bersatu regarding its political strategy in Selangor, where the party has navigated a complex relationship with the state government. Bersatu has previously adopted flexible approaches to cooperation while attempting to maintain its independence in state affairs.

The remarks raise questions about the scope and implications of the agreement, particularly regarding whether party members were properly consulted about the terms and expectations of the arrangement.
