Abu Bakar Hamzah has urged Bersatu to conduct a comprehensive reassessment of its recent decisions in a bid to strengthen ties with its coalition partners in Perikatan Nasional, the opposition bloc that includes PAS and Perikatan parties.
The Perlis Bersatu leader highlighted that certain party actions, particularly the expulsion of members, have strained relationships within the alliance and could undermine the coalition's cohesion and electoral prospects.
Bersatu, which has faced internal challenges and shifting political alignments in recent months, has come under scrutiny for its management of party discipline and member retention. Abu Bakar's remarks suggest growing concern among party leaders about the broader impact of these decisions on Perikatan's unity and effectiveness as an opposition force.
The call for reconciliation comes as Malaysian opposition coalitions seek to strengthen their position ahead of potential electoral contests. Analysts have noted that maintaining unity within multi-party alliances remains a persistent challenge in Malaysia's competitive political landscape.
It remains unclear whether Bersatu's leadership will formally respond to the Perlis chairman's recommendations or initiate a formal policy review process regarding party membership decisions.
