Bersatu poised to field candidates in eight Melaka constituencies
The Muhyiddin Yassin-led Perikatan Nasional component is set to contest eight state seats in the next Melaka election, with potential three-cornered contests in four constituencies against Pakatan Harapan candidates.

Bersatu is preparing to contest Kelebang, Lendu, Gadek, Sungai Udang, Pantai Kundor, Pengkalan Batu, Ayer Keroh and Bemban in Melaka, according to party sources.
The move signals the party's strategy to strengthen its presence in the state ahead of elections. However, the planned candidacies could create complications within the opposition coalition, as four of the targeted seats are also expected to see Pakatan Harapan contesting candidates.
The overlap threatens to fragment opposition votes in those constituencies, potentially benefiting the ruling Barisan Nasional. Political analysts have previously warned that three-cornered contests could undermine the opposition's ability to challenge the government at the state level.
Bersatu's decision comes as political realignments continue to reshape Malaysia's electoral landscape. The party has sought to carve out a distinct role within Perikatan Nasional while maintaining its relevance in key states.
The party has not issued an official statement regarding its candidacy plans, and negotiations over seat allocations between coalition partners remain ongoing.
