Bersatu signals potential boycott of PN meeting over legal concerns

Azmin Ali, secretary-general of Bersatu, indicated on Wednesday that party representatives might skip the scheduled meeting at PAS headquarters, raising questions about the legality of the gathering under association laws.

The move reflects growing tensions within the Perikatan Nasional coalition, with Bersatu expressing concern that proceeding with the meeting could breach provisions of Malaysia's Societies Act or internal party constitution requirements.

Azmin's cautionary stance suggests escalating disputes within the three-party Perikatan Nasional alliance, which also comprises PAS and Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (GERAKAN). The coalition has faced recurring coordination challenges since its formation.

The planned evening session at PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur was expected to address coalition matters, but Bersatu's hesitation casts uncertainty over the meeting's viability and the broader stability of the political alliance.

Neither Bersatu nor PAS had issued formal statements canceling the gathering as of Wednesday evening, leaving the status of the meeting in limbo.
