BFAR explores octopus breeding potential for sustainable Mimaropa fisheries

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Mimaropa is conducting a comprehensive study on the reproductive biology of Octopus cyanea, commonly called "pugita" locally, to establish scientific data for improved fisheries management across the region.

The research initiative aims to understand the breeding patterns and lifecycle characteristics of the species, which could lay the groundwork for controlled aquaculture operations. Officials say the findings will support efforts to maintain healthy fish stocks while meeting growing demand for marine resources in the area.
