BFAR invests P16.5 million in Pangasinan fishing communities
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has distributed equipment and infrastructure projects worth P16.5 million to coastal municipalities in Pangasinan as part of a national assistance program. DAGUPAN CITY — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Ilocos Region office distributed P16.5 million in development projects to coastal local government units and fisherfolk organizations across Pangasinan on Monday. The distribution, held in Dagupan City as part of the Handog ng Pangulo nationwide program, targeted multiple municipalities to strengthen maritime livelihoods in the province.
BFAR Regional Director Remely Lachica oversaw the handover of equipment and infrastructure assets, including motorized fiberglass-reinforced fishing vessels measuring 25 feet in length, to beneficiary communities. The initiative represents a significant investment in fishing-dependent towns seeking to modernize their operations and enhance productivity.
The projects are intended to directly support small-scale fisheries and coastal resource management efforts in the region. Officials noted that the equipment distribution is part of broader efforts to sustain fishing communities and ensure food security across South and Southeast Asia's key fishing zones.
The Handog ng Pangulo program continues to roll out assistance initiatives across the country, with the Pangasinan distribution marking another phase of national resource allocation to provincial maritime sectors.
