Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel prevented what appeared to be a forced entry attempt at the Panchagarh border on Monday when they encountered seven individuals being directed toward the frontier by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) officers. BGB soldiers stationed at the crossing immediately intervened to halt the passage. The individuals were detained and subsequently handed over to local immigration authorities for processing and investigation. The incident occurred in the early hours, according to BGB sources familiar with the matter. The nationalities and personal details of those involved have not been immediately disclosed, though preliminary investigations suggest they may have been migrant workers or displaced persons. This latest occurrence underscores persistent challenges in border management between the two nations. Such incidents, while periodically reported along the 4,156-kilometre Bangladesh-India boundary, remain a point of concern for BGB officials tasked with securing the frontier. The Bangladesh government has previously raised objections to alleged pushback attempts at various border crossings, describing them as violations of humanitarian principles. BSF representatives were not immediately available for comment regarding the incident. BGB has intensified patrols in border areas following a spike in reported crossing attempts in recent months.
