Bharat Biotech cuts malaria vaccine price 40% under Gavi partnership

Bharat Biotech has committed to slashing malaria vaccine prices by 40 percent under a new partnership with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and UNICEF. The reduced pricing structure will take effect from early 2027, marking a significant step toward improving vaccine accessibility across developing nations.

Under the terms of the agreement, the vaccine will be supplied at €5.50 per dose, representing a substantial decrease from current pricing levels. This reduction is anticipated to unlock cumulative savings of $50 million through 2029, potentially enabling greater vaccine uptake in regions with high malaria burden.

The price reduction reflects growing momentum in vaccine affordability initiatives, particularly for diseases disproportionately affecting low and middle-income countries. Bharat Biotech's decision aligns with broader global efforts to expand immunisation coverage and strengthen disease prevention programmes in vulnerable populations.

Malaria remains a significant public health challenge across South and Southeast Asia, with millions of cases reported annually. Expanded vaccine availability at reduced costs could help fortify immunisation strategies in endemic regions and contribute to disease burden reduction targets.
