Bhojpur District Unveils 100-Foot Durga Puja Pandal Modeled on Somnath Temple

The Maa Sinhavahini Shringar Samiti commissioned the construction of the grand pandal in Gopiganj, a locality in Bhojpur district, drawing architectural inspiration from the iconic Somnath Temple in Gujarat. The ambitious project reflects the organizing committee's commitment to creating an elaborate celebration space for the annual Durga Puja festival.

Thirty skilled workers dispatched from Kolkata invested approximately two months of labor to complete the structure, which rises 100 feet into the skyline. The construction employed traditional materials including bamboo, timber, and fabric to achieve the detailed architectural design.

Central to the pandal installation is a 20-foot-tall idol of Goddess Durga, crafted with meticulous attention to sculptural detail. The scale and ambition of the project underscore the growing trend across northern India of constructing increasingly elaborate festival installations that draw inspiration from classical Indian religious architecture.

The completed pandal is expected to attract significant visitor footfall during the Durga Puja celebrations, offering devotees an immersive cultural and spiritual experience. The project represents a substantial investment by the local organizing committee in celebrating the nine-day festival dedicated to the goddess.
