Bhopal bans protests at three key sites for two months

The Bhopal administration has issued an order restricting protests at three prominent sites within the city limits for a 60-day period, effective immediately. The restriction applies to locations frequently used for public demonstrations and rallies.

According to the official order, the ban has been imposed to ensure unobstructed movement of emergency services, including ambulances and fire brigades, as well as to facilitate the smooth transit of VIPs and VVIPs through the affected areas. The administration cited potential disruptions to critical services and traffic flow as primary reasons for the measure.

Civil society groups have raised concerns about the absence of designated alternative sites where citizens can exercise their right to protest. The administration has not announced substitute locations or clarified the process for obtaining permission to hold demonstrations during the imposed restriction period.

The order marks the latest in a series of restrictions on public assemblies in the city. Activists have questioned whether the two-month timeline is justified by the stated concerns, and whether adequate notice was provided to organizations planning demonstrations.
