In a significant gesture of diplomatic recognition, Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk has dedicated a Buddhist stupa to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The honour reflects the monarch's acknowledgement of Modi's role in deepening ties between New Delhi and Thimphu.
The dedication was announced by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju through a post on social media platform X, underscoring the continued warmth in India-Bhutan relations. The Buddhist stupa, a sacred monument in the Himalayan kingdom, symbolises the spiritual and cultural connection between the two neighbouring countries.
India and Bhutan have maintained a close partnership across multiple domains, including defence, trade, and cultural exchanges. The kingdom remains one of India's most trusted allies in the region, with consistent alignment on key strategic and developmental issues.
The stupa dedication marks another milestone in high-level engagements between the two nations, reinforcing the special bond that has characterised India-Bhutan relations for decades.
