Bhuvneshwar's return bolsters India's T20 bowling depth, says Iyer

India's T20 captain Shreyas Iyer expressed confidence that the recall of 36-year-old Bhuvneshwar Kumar would provide crucial experience to a bowling unit that has struggled in recent matches. Bhuvneshwar's inclusion in the squad for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, beginning Thursday, marks his return to the format after a four-year absence.

"Bhuvi brings considerable experience to the team, which we have been lacking, particularly after the IPL," Iyer said at a pre-match press conference. "We had several new bowlers in our ranks, and having someone of his calibre makes a significant difference."

The veteran pacer has demonstrated strong form in the shortest format in recent seasons, claiming back-to-back IPL titles in the last two years. His understanding of T20 dynamics and ability to control opposition batsmen could prove invaluable as India seeks to strengthen its bowling performance.

India's pace attack has faced questions following several matches on flat pitches where opposition teams posted substantial totals. With premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah unavailable, the team has relied on younger pacers including Mayank Yadav, Prince Yadav, and Gurnoor Brar. Bhuvneshwar's reputation as a skilled exponent of swing and seam bowling is expected to complement the developing talents in the squad.
