Kempegowda International Airport operator BIAL issued a statement Saturday addressing concerns over employment opportunities for locals, asserting that workers from Karnataka form the majority of its staff complement. The airport authority said it remains committed to engaging with relevant authorities and stakeholders to address issues raised regarding job availability for state residents.

The clarification followed discussions between Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, a pro-Kannada organisation, and companies operating at the airport facility. The group is campaigning for enhanced representation of Kannadigas in private-sector employment at the airport and other major employers across the region.

BIAL emphasised its deep roots in Karnataka and stated that the state's identity, culture and aspirations are reflected in the airport's art, architecture, design and passenger experiences. The operator noted that its ongoing expansion programme will generate additional employment opportunities for people from Karnataka, helping address the broader concerns about local job creation in the private sector.

The airport has emerged as a focal point in a wider discussion about employment practices at major private enterprises in Karnataka, with local groups increasingly vocal about ensuring adequate opportunities for state residents in high-profile projects.
