Bihar boat disaster death toll climbs to 13; officials order investigation

The death toll from a boat capsize in Bihar's Raghopur area has risen to 13, officials confirmed on Tuesday. Among those who perished, nine were girls and four were boys, ranging in age from six to 16 years old.

The youngest victim has been identified as a six-year-old boy, while the oldest was a 16-year-old girl. The high proportion of child victims in the incident has raised concerns about safety protocols and vessel management in the region.

State administration officials have launched a formal probe into the circumstances surrounding the capsizing. The investigation aims to determine the cause of the accident and whether any lapses in safety procedures or maintenance contributed to the tragedy.

Bihar has experienced several boat-related incidents in recent years, many involving inadequate safety measures and overcrowding. Authorities have been urged to strengthen oversight of waterborne transportation, particularly on routes frequented by students and commuters.

The state government has announced that it will assess all boats operating in the region to ensure compliance with safety standards. Relief measures for the families of the deceased are also being coordinated by local administration.
