Bihar CM pledges salary to flood relief as crisis deepens across state

The Chief Minister of Bihar announced a personal contribution of one month's salary towards relief efforts for flood-affected residents, as the state grapples with one of its worst natural disasters in recent times. The move comes as waters continue to submerge large tracts of agricultural land and residential areas across the eastern state.

Flood waters have impacted nearly 50 lakh people spread across 15 districts, according to official assessments. The inundation has disrupted normal life, with schools and public services suspended in several affected areas. Preliminary reports indicate significant damage to crops, livestock, and infrastructure in vulnerable regions.

On September 16, a central team led by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan travelled to Bihar to conduct an on-ground assessment of the flood damage. The visit was aimed at understanding the scale of agricultural losses and determining the quantum of central assistance required for relief and rehabilitation operations.

State authorities have activated emergency response mechanisms, with rescue operations ongoing in severely affected zones. The focus remains on ensuring adequate food, water, and medical supplies reach displaced families sheltering in relief camps. Officials are also preparing damage assessment reports to file claims for central disaster assistance.
