Bihar floods impact 2.7 million as swollen rivers inundate 13 districts

Heavy rainfall has caused rivers across Bihar to breach their banks, inundating 13 districts and displacing millions of residents. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary inspected relief operations on Monday, visiting community kitchens in Vaishali and Bhagalpur to assess the ground situation and direct officials to accelerate rescue and aid efforts.
State administration has established 190 community kitchens across flood-affected areas to provide food assistance to stranded residents. Additionally, 1,429 boats have been deployed for ongoing search and rescue operations, with officials prioritizing operations in vulnerable zones and areas downstream of major rivers.
The Ganga has reached critical flood levels at Gandhi Ghat and Hathidah in Patna district, triggering alerts in downstream regions. Authorities have intensified monitoring of river embankments across the state and increased surveillance in areas identified as particularly vulnerable to further inundation. The state government has instructed local administrators to maintain continuous vigilance and ensure timely evacuation of residents from high-risk areas as water levels remain elevated.
