Minister Santosh Suman has formally urged Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to consider renaming Bakhtiyarpur as 'Nitishpur', citing the town's historical significance as the birthplace of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The proposal reflects efforts within Bihar's political circles to honor long-serving leaders through place nomenclature. Bakhtiyarpur, located in Nalanda district, has served as a political base for Kumar, who led Bihar for over a decade across multiple terms.
Such renaming proposals are not uncommon in Indian politics, where towns and public spaces are frequently renamed to commemorate prominent leaders. The suggestion now awaits consideration from the state government's administrative machinery.
Chief Minister Choudhary's office has not yet issued a formal response to the renaming proposal. The decision would require approval from relevant state departments and adherence to established procedures for administrative nomenclature changes.
