Police authorities in Katihaar district, Bihar, have suspended two officers and registered a first information report (FIR) against three personnel following an investigation into alleged extortion. The incident involved members of the Dial 112 emergency response unit who were accused of unlawfully collecting 50 rupees from the driver of a pickup truck laden with livestock.
The allegations surfaced after a video recording of the exchange circulated on social media platforms, prompting immediate action from the police department. A traffic department deputy superintendent of police (DSP) subsequently conducted an inquiry into the matter, which substantiated the charges against the accused personnel.
In response to the investigation findings, police authorities suspended two constables and the vehicle's driver. Additionally, an FIR has been registered against all three individuals in connection with the alleged illegal collection of funds. The action underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address misconduct within its ranks, particularly incidents involving abuse of authority for personal gain.
The incident has renewed focus on accountability measures within police forces across the region, with authorities emphasizing zero tolerance for corrupt practices that undermine public trust in law enforcement agencies.
