Vinay Kumar, the senior IPS officer serving as Bihar's police commissioner, has voluntarily retired from service, the state government confirmed on September 25. Kumar's application for voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) was accepted with immediate effect, marking an early exit from the force for the 1991-batch officer.
The move comes shortly after Kumar had proceeded on leave citing health reasons. His decision to seek VRS reflects personal circumstances that prompted the senior police official to step down from his position ahead of his scheduled retirement.
Kumar's tenure as Bihar's top police officer had placed him at the forefront of law enforcement operations in the state. His voluntary exit now paves the way for the state administration to appoint a successor to lead the Bihar Police force.
The acceptance of Kumar's retirement application is effective immediately, as per the government notification. The circumstances leading to his medical leave and subsequent decision to seek VRS were not immediately disclosed by official channels.
