Bihar to screen 60 million people for health issues by year-end

Bihar's health authorities have rolled out a comprehensive door-to-door medical screening programme, with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary overseeing the launch of the 'Jaanch evam Upchar - Chikitsa Aapke Dwar' (Testing and Treatment – Medical Care at Your Doorstep) initiative. The campaign was formally inaugurated by flagging off awareness chariots that will traverse all 38 districts in the state.

The screening drive aims to reach approximately 60 million people and deliver preliminary diagnostic services at the community level, reducing the burden on formal healthcare facilities and improving early detection of health conditions. The initiative represents a significant expansion of Bihar's public health infrastructure, bringing testing and basic medical consultation to doorsteps rather than requiring residents to travel to clinics or hospitals.

State authorities have set November 30 as the target date for completing the mass screening exercise. The campaign employs mobile health units and awareness vehicles to inform residents about available services while simultaneously conducting health assessments across both urban and rural areas.

The programme is designed to identify health issues in their early stages and facilitate timely treatment, with particular focus on reaching underserved populations in Bihar's remote and rural districts. Officials indicated that data collected through the screening exercise would help inform future public health planning and resource allocation in the state.
