The Bihar Police Department has transferred 17 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in a significant administrative reshuffle announced on Wednesday. The transfer directive includes the reposting of senior officers heading multiple districts across the state.
Among those affected is SP Jha, the Superintendent of Police in Siwan, who has been placed on the waiting list pending a fresh posting. The transfer follows an incident on July 25 when a student demonstration in Siwan witnessed the alleged use of an AK-47 rifle. The circumstances surrounding the weapon's discharge during the protest remain under examination.
The transfers also impact the SP of Bhojpur district, along with 15 other IPS-rank officers serving in various capacities across Bihar. Police officials characterised the reshuffle as part of regular administrative procedures aimed at optimising resource deployment and personnel management across districts.
The timing of the transfers, coinciding with the July 25 incident in Siwan, underscores the state police's emphasis on accountability and operational oversight. Further details regarding the postings of transferred officers are expected to be released by the Bihar Police headquarters in due course.
