Bihar waives ₹90 crore interest on brick kiln dues under OTS scheme

The Bihar government has announced a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme aimed at providing relief to brick kiln owners burdened by outstanding tax and regulatory dues. Under the scheme, the state government will waive the entire interest component on outstanding obligations, substantially reducing the financial burden on kiln operators.

The scheme will be operational for a three-month window commencing September 21, providing brick kiln owners a limited timeframe to settle their dues at a significantly reduced cost. By eliminating the interest portion of their outstanding liabilities, the government aims to encourage compliance and ease the financial strain on the sector.

Industry officials estimate that the OTS scheme will benefit approximately 6,000 brick kiln operators across Bihar. The brick kiln sector, a significant contributor to the state's economy and employment, has faced considerable pressure in recent years due to mounting dues and regulatory compliance issues.

The move is part of the Bihar government's broader effort to support small and medium-scale industries during challenging economic conditions. By providing a structured settlement opportunity, the state hopes to improve compliance rates while providing relief to operators who form a crucial part of the construction and manufacturing sectors in the region.
