Binance, the leading cryptocurrency platform globally, announced it has set aside substantial company resources to cover the majority of losses from a significant hacking incident that resulted in the theft of US$6.3 billion in digital assets.
The exchange said it has covered approximately 90 percent of the stolen funds through its own reserves, representing a commitment to reimburse affected users. The remaining 10 percent of losses is expected to be addressed through additional recovery measures and insurance mechanisms.
Investigators have linked the sophisticated cyberattack to North Korean-linked threat actors, marking one of the largest security breaches in the cryptocurrency industry's history. The incident has raised concerns about the security infrastructure of major digital asset platforms and their vulnerability to state-sponsored cyber operations.
Binance's response demonstrates efforts by major cryptocurrency exchanges to maintain customer confidence following security incidents. The platform's decision to deploy company funds to cover losses represents an effort to minimize financial impact on users and preserve trust in the exchange during a period of heightened scrutiny of digital asset security practices.
