BIS hosts MSME conclave in Tamil Nadu to boost quality standards

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) convened a conclave in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, focused on strengthening India's MSME sector through standardization and quality compliance. The programme brought together small and medium-sized manufacturers to address critical gaps in their understanding of product quality benchmarks and Indian Standards requirements.

During the conclave, BIS officials highlighted the importance of adhering to standardization protocols as a competitive advantage in both domestic and international markets. Participants were briefed on the certification requirements applicable to their respective sectors and the procedural frameworks required for obtaining BIS certification and quality marks.

A key focus of the initiative was familiarising MSMEs with the range of financial and technical assistance schemes available to facilitate compliance. Officials outlined how enterprises can leverage government support programmes to upgrade their manufacturing processes and meet prescribed Indian Standards without incurring prohibitive costs.

The conclave underscored BIS's commitment to catalysing quality improvement across India's MSME ecosystem. By equipping smaller manufacturers with standardization knowledge and access to compliance support, the bureau aims to enhance their market competitiveness while ensuring consumer protection through adherence to national quality standards.
