BJD accuses BJP lawmakers of undermining Odisha's mining interests

The Biju Janata Dal on Tuesday levelled accusations against BJP lawmakers, asserting they backed mining law amendments that adversely affected Odisha's interests. BJD MP Santrupt Misra cited official submissions made before the Supreme Court to support the party's position.
According to Misra, Odisha's Advocate General Pitambar Acharya had filed an affidavit in the apex court stating that the state is entitled to approximately ₹1 lakh crore in arrears from mining-related revenues. The submission emphasized that Odisha would face significant financial losses if it failed to recover the amount, Misra alleged.
The BJD MP contended that the BJP's support for the amendments in question undermined the state's ability to secure these legitimate dues. The party has positioned the matter as a case of regional interests being sacrificed at the national level.
The dispute underscores ongoing tensions between the two parties over resource management and revenue distribution in Odisha, with the mining sector remaining a contentious issue in state politics.
