The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has levelled accusations that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is operating an organised mechanism in Punjab involving alleged bribes to withdraw rape cases. Party representatives claimed the scheme involves significant sums and operates systematically across the state.
The allegations surface days after the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) initiated proceedings into separate claims that the Chief Minister's wife sought ₹5 crore to suppress a rape case. The rights body's intervention has drawn scrutiny to governance practices within the AAP-led administration.
Neither the AAP nor the Chief Minister's office has issued formal responses to the BJP's latest allegations. The claims add to mounting political friction between the ruling party and opposition in Punjab, a state that has witnessed elevated political tensions in recent months.
