BJP accuses Congress government of evading sugarcane farmer support duties

The BJP Raitha Morcha has leveled fresh accusations against the Congress-led state government, claiming it is shirking its responsibilities towards sugarcane farmers in the region. According to Aminappagouda S. Patil Nadahalli, state president of the BJP Raitha Morcha, the state government is not meeting its obligations to the farming community.

Nadahalli argued that the state should shoulder at least 70 percent of the financial burden related to sugarcane farming support measures. The BJP's farm wing contended that the current burden-sharing arrangement between the state and central governments is inequitable, placing excessive responsibility on farmers already grappling with economic pressures.

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions over agricultural subsidies and support schemes in the state. Sugarcane farming has long been a significant sector in several southern and western Indian states, with farmers frequently seeking enhanced government intervention and financial assistance.

The BJP's criticism reflects broader political contestation over agricultural policy, with opposition parties frequently accusing incumbent governments of inadequate farmer support. The Congress government has not immediately responded to the allegations.
