BJP accuses Congress of gender hypocrisy in ministerial appointments

The BJP on Wednesday attacked the Congress party over what it termed a gap between the party's stated commitment to women's empowerment and its ministerial appointments in states where it governs. According to the BJP's analysis, Congress controls four state governments but has appointed only three women ministers across these administrations, raising questions about the party's dedication to gender inclusion in leadership roles.

The BJP spokesperson pointed to significant disparities in women's representation among Congress-ruled states. Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, both under Congress control, have no women ministers in their cabinets, according to the party's assessment. In contrast, Kerala and Telangana each have two women ministers, though the party noted that one woman minister in Telangana has since been removed from her position.

The criticism forms part of an ongoing political debate over gender representation in Indian governance. Women's participation in ministerial roles remains a contentious issue across political parties, with various groups consistently pushing for greater female representation in positions of power and decision-making.

The Congress has not yet responded to the BJP's assertions regarding its ministerial composition and women's empowerment record.
