The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, claiming the opposition alliance used artificially generated images to inflate crowd estimates at a recent rally held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. BJP representatives alleged the opposition deliberately circulated misleading visuals to portray higher public participation than what actually occurred at the gathering. The Congress-led INDIA coalition has not immediately responded to the allegations. The rally was convened to voice opposition to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and protest against the Special Intensive Revision exercise, which the opposition contends reflects irregularities in the electoral process. The SIR is a periodic administrative procedure undertaken by election authorities to update voter rolls and cross-verify electoral data. The opposition has maintained that the exercise is being wielded to disenfranchise voters in opposition-ruled states. The digital imagery controversy has added another layer to the ongoing political dispute between the government and opposition factions over electoral administration and voting procedures across India.
