BJP accuses Rahul Gandhi of deflecting from 'Vande Mataram' controversy

BJP president J.P. Nadda on Tuesday criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's decision to stage a sit-in at Parliament, arguing the timing was designed to shift focus away from the 'Vande Mataram' row engulfing the opposition party. Nadda questioned why Gandhi had chosen to launch the protest despite the Supreme Court's decision to establish a high-powered committee to investigate the July 20 incident at the center of the controversy.

The BJP chief suggested the dharna exposed what he termed the Congress party's "desperation" in the face of mounting political challenges. He underscored that the apex court's intervention in the matter had already initiated an independent probe, rendering Gandhi's parliamentary protest superfluous from the government's perspective.

The sit-in comes as the Congress grapples with fallout from the July 20 incident, which has become a contentious political flashpoint. Gandhi's decision to stage the protest marks an escalation in the party's response to the controversy, despite judicial processes already being set in motion to examine the matter.
