BJP attacks Congress over BRICS criticism as India strengthens multilateral role

BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Monday claimed that the Congress party was unable to accept India's growing progress and development trajectory, particularly in the context of the country's role within the BRICS grouping.

Patra drew a stark contrast between India's economic position during the previous Congress-led governments and its current standing. He noted that India's position within BRICS had strengthened considerably, stating that the "I" in the acronym was "turning shaky" during 2011-12 when the Congress was in power, but has since become one of the bloc's most robust contributors.

The remarks reflect the ongoing political debate over economic management and India's international positioning. BRICS, the association of five major emerging economies including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, has expanded its footprint in global affairs in recent years, with India playing an increasingly prominent role in its deliberations.

The BJP leader's comments come amid broader political discourse on India's economic growth and its expanding influence in multilateral forums. The party has consistently highlighted economic indicators and India's diplomatic initiatives as evidence of strengthened international standing under its administration.
