BJP attacks Congress over religious remarks, accuses party of politicising faith

The Bharatiya Janata Party launched a sharp offensive against the Congress on Tuesday, with senior party figures accusing the opposition of making inflammatory religious statements and exploiting faith for political gain. The attack centres on remarks attributed to Congress leaders, which party spokespeople say reflect an anti-Hindu bias within the opposition leadership.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a prominent BJP figure, contended that Congress has lost its political direction and resorted to divisive tactics. "The Congress leadership appears adrift and is resorting to communal narratives," Chouhan said, suggesting the party lacks a coherent policy platform.

Anurag Thakur, another senior BJP voice, intensified the criticism by arguing that Congress routinely weaponises religious references for electoral mobilisation. Party officials claimed such rhetoric undermines secular discourse and polarises voters along communal lines.

The Congress has not issued an immediate substantive response to the allegations. The exchange reflects deepening polarisation in Indian politics, with both major parties regularly accusing each other of communal agitation and divisive strategies.
