BJP defends voter deletion process, dismisses opposition allegations

BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday defended the voter deletion process underway in the state, stating that decisions to remove names from electoral rolls are made only after thorough ground-level verification by Election Commission officials.

Rao's remarks came in response to allegations levelled by the Congress and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen regarding irregularities in the Special Integrated Review, the periodic process through which the EC identifies and removes ineligible or duplicate voter entries.

The BJP leader dismissed the opposition claims as politically motivated, arguing that the Election Commission's procedures are transparent and designed to maintain electoral integrity. He emphasized that field verification teams are tasked with confirming the eligibility status of voters before any deletion orders are issued.

The voter deletion exercise has emerged as a contentious issue ahead of upcoming electoral contests, with opposition parties contending that the process disproportionately affects certain communities. Election Commission officials have previously stated that the review is routine and conducted in accordance with established electoral protocols across all states.
