The opposition staged a walkout in the Karnataka Assembly, citing the government's inaction on the drought crisis gripping parts of the state. Leader of Opposition R. Ashok accused the ruling coalition of neglecting taluks severely impacted by deficit monsoon rainfall, saying no formal assessment or relief framework had been established.
Ashok demanded that the government immediately compile and release an official list of all taluks facing acute drought conditions. The opposition also called for the removal of Water Resources Minister B. Nagendra, holding him accountable for the delayed response to the agrarian crisis.
The disruption highlighted growing tensions between the government and opposition over drought management. With the monsoon underperforming across several districts, agricultural communities have expressed concern about inadequate government preparedness and support measures.
The government has not yet publicly responded to the opposition's specific demands regarding the minister's removal or the timeline for publishing drought-affected taluks. Agricultural experts have warned that delayed drought assessments could hamper timely disbursement of relief funds to affected farmers and communities.
