BJP workers in Kerala launched a fresh round of protests on Wednesday, holding black flag demonstrations against state ministers and marching toward the state Secretariat in the capital. The demonstrations were triggered by an attack on Mararji Bhavan, the party's state office, which has drawn sharp condemnation from the saffron party leadership.
Activists carrying black flags converged at key locations in Thiruvananthapuram to lodge their grievances against what the party describes as a deliberate assault on its political base in the state. The show of strength appeared aimed at mounting pressure on the state government over the incident at the party office.
During the march toward the Secretariat, tensions escalated as protesters came face-to-face with police personnel deployed in the area. Scuffles broke out between BJP activists and security forces as authorities sought to prevent the demonstrators from reaching government offices.
The incident marks the latest flashpoint in Kerala's contentious political landscape, where the BJP has been attempting to expand its organizational footprint amid competition from the ruling Left Democratic Front and opposition Congress-led coalition. Party officials signaled that protests would continue until their demands for action against those responsible for the office attack are met.
Security has been heightened across government installations in Thiruvananthapuram as the political temperature continues to rise in the state.
