BJP exploits communal tensions for political gain: Karnataka minister

Karnataka Minister Yathindra launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday, accusing its leaders of adopting predatory tactics to advance their political interests. Speaking at a public event, the minister drew a pointed comparison between BJP leaders and vultures, suggesting they swoop down to exploit communal tensions whenever such opportunities arise.

Yathindra's remarks reflected growing friction between the ruling coalition and the opposition BJP over the handling of communal incidents in the state. The minister argued that rather than working toward social harmony and unity, BJP leaders deliberately inflame religious sensitivities to mobilise voter bases and consolidate political support.

"These tactics have become a recurring pattern," Yathindra said, suggesting that the party uses divisive narratives as a deliberate strategy during periods of heightened communal sensitivity. He contended that such an approach undermines efforts to maintain peace and damages the state's secular fabric.

The criticism underscores the sharpening political divide in Karnataka, where control of both state administration and electoral outcomes remains hotly contested. Opposition leaders have previously made similar accusations about the use of communal rhetoric in campaigns, while BJP representatives have denied the charges and accused their critics of selective outrage.
