BJP hits out at TVK MLA over Amaran movie remarks on Muslim portrayal

The BJP has sought intervention from Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister following remarks made by a TVK party MLA concerning the portrayal of Muslim characters in the 2024 Tamil-language film Amaran. The legislator, identified as Mustafa, made the comments while addressing media representatives in Madurai, stating that the film presented Muslims in a negative light.

The saffron party has formally condemned the statements, demanding that the state's chief minister take disciplinary action against the legislator for his remarks. BJP leaders have argued that such commentary could potentially fuel communal tensions and undermine social harmony in the state.

The film Amaran, which emerged as a major box office success in 2024, has been a subject of discussion since its theatrical release. The controversy marks the latest instance of political figures engaging with content-related issues in Tamil Nadu's contentious media landscape.

The TVK, or Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, is a regional political party in Tamil Nadu. Officials from the party were not immediately available for comment regarding the BJP's demands and the MLA's original statements about the film's narrative choices.
