BJP intensifies calls for TVM councillor's resignation over bribery allegations

The BJP has ramped up pressure on the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to act against a CPI(M) councillor accused of demanding a substantial bribe from a property owner. The controversy centres on a purported video that surfaced two days ago, in which the councillor is alleged to have demanded ₹10 lakh from a resident of Thirumala to resolve administrative issues related to a plot purchased within the ward.

The viral video has intensified scrutiny of the councillor's conduct and prompted the opposition party to call for an immediate resignation. BJP representatives have stressed that such allegations undermine public trust in municipal administration and demanded swift action from the corporation's leadership.

The CPI(M), which governs the corporation, has not yet issued a formal statement on the matter. Municipal authorities are expected to initiate an inquiry into the allegations. The incident has added to growing concerns about governance standards in the civic body, with questions being raised about the adequacy of oversight mechanisms in place to prevent such conduct.

Property-related complaints have been a longstanding issue in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation wards, with residents frequently reporting delays in resolving documentation and administrative matters. This case has reignited debate about the need for stricter accountability measures and transparent grievance redressal systems in municipal administration.
