Two members of a prominent political family died in a bus fire in Noida on Monday, authorities said. Sunita Gupta, 52, and her son Shashank Gupta, 24, were among the casualties in the incident. Sunita was the wife of Neeraj Gupta, District Treasurer of the BJP's Mahoba unit. The family resided in the Rajmandir area of Charkhari town in Uttar Pradesh.
Initial reports suggest that Shashank chose to remain with his mother during the emergency rather than evacuate independently. Both were unable to escape the vehicle as the fire spread rapidly through the bus.
