Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal have called on Rahul Gandhi to bring his concerns to Parliament rather than pursuing social media debates, offering to convene a special legislative session if needed.
The challenge centres on key issues including electoral verification protocols and electronic voting machine systems. Sitharaman stated that the government stands prepared to facilitate parliamentary discussion on these matters, urging the Congress leader to participate directly in legislative debate.
Goyal took the opportunity to counter what he characterised as Gandhi's pattern of engaging in repetitive discourse, suggesting the opposition leader has been conducting an internal debate since the 2014 general elections without advancing substantive policy discussion.
The escalation marks a continuation of the political tension between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress party over governance issues and electoral integrity. The ministers' willingness to facilitate a special session underscores the BJP's confidence in defending its position on the contested matters within the parliamentary forum.
