BJP MLA denies party link to Jadavpur University campus violence
A Kolkata legislator has rejected allegations of BJP involvement in clashes at Jadavpur University, instead blaming left-wing student groups for provoking the incident. The denial comes after violent scenes on campus triggered by an injury to an ABVP member.

Sarbari Mukherjee, the BJP Member of Legislative Assembly representing Jadavpur, has distanced her party from the recent clashes that erupted on the university campus, asserting that the BJP has no organisational ties with the All India Students' Council (ABVP). The statement addresses allegations that party members were involved in the confrontation that unfolded on the Kolkata institution's grounds.
Mukherjee attributed the violence to the actions of left-leaning student organisations, specifically naming the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and the Revolutionary Students' Front (RSF). According to her account, these groups deliberately provoked ABVP supporters to enter the campus following an incident in which a member of the RSS student wing sustained injuries.
The Jadavpur University incident marks the latest in a series of campus-related disturbances in West Bengal, where competing student organisations have repeatedly clashed over campus politics and ideological differences. The Left parties have long maintained a stronghold over student unions in the state's premier educational institutions.
The university administration has not yet issued an official statement regarding the sequence of events or any disciplinary action against those involved in the altercation. The incident has reignited debates over student safety and campus governance in West Bengal's universities.
