BJP MP backs Kartarpur corridor reopening amid Modi service milestone

Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney on Tuesday advocated for the reopening of the Kartarpur corridor, the cross-border passage linking Indian and Pakistani Punjab that facilitates Sikh pilgrimage to the historic Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara. The legislator's comments came as Home Minister Amit Shah formally launched an exhibition commemorating Modi's quarter-century in public life, spanning his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat and subsequent years as Prime Minister.

Sahney, speaking at the event, highlighted Modi's administrative record and dedication to national development. The BJP parliamentarian argued that the Prime Minister's sustained commitment to public service merits recognition at the highest levels, suggesting Modi is deserving of the Bharat Ratna, India's most prestigious civilian award.

The Kartarpur corridor, inaugurated in 2019, was temporarily closed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since its reopening, the passage has enabled thousands of Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit Kartarpur Sahib shrine in Pakistan's Punjab province. However, cross-border tensions and diplomatic strains have periodically affected its operational status.

Shah's exhibition underscored the Modi government's policy achievements and developmental initiatives over the past 25 years. The inauguration event drew senior BJP functionaries and served as a platform for party leaders to reflect on the Prime Minister's political trajectory and governance approach.
