BJP promises Uniform Civil Code in Uttar Pradesh if re-elected

Amit Shah, a key figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party, reiterated the party's commitment to introducing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttar Pradesh following fresh electoral victories. The announcement reaffirms the BJP's long-standing position on the matter, which has remained a cornerstone of its ideological agenda.

Shah extended a public challenge to opposition figures, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, inviting them to participate in a structured debate on the subject in Parliament. According to Shah, such a discussion would allow the parties to present their respective positions on the proposed legislative framework.

The senior leader accused the opposition of prioritizing disruption over constructive dialogue. Shah characterized their approach as aimed at creating confusion and obstruction rather than engaging in meaningful deliberation on the constitutional and social implications of a uniform civil code.

The Uniform Civil Code remains a contentious issue in Indian politics, with supporters arguing it would ensure equality before law across all communities, while critics contend it infringes on religious autonomy and cultural pluralism. The debate intensifies as Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state, continues to be a crucial electoral battleground.
