BJP questions INDIA bloc's crowd estimates at Delhi rally
The opposition coalition's gathering at Ramlila Grounds drew scrutiny from the ruling BJP, which challenged claims of one million attendees. Party officials pointed to empty seating and sparse crowd distribution as evidence of inflated figures.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra on Wednesday contested the INDIA bloc's attendance claims for its rally at Delhi's Ramlila Grounds, alleging significant discrepancies between reported and actual crowd numbers. Patra claimed that of approximately 28,000 chairs arranged at the venue, between 5,000 and 7,000 remained empty throughout the event. He also highlighted large sections of the grounds that appeared sparsely populated during the opposition alliance's demonstration.
The dispute centres on organiser claims that roughly one million people attended the INDIA bloc gathering. Patra presented photographic evidence to support his contention that actual attendance fell substantially short of publicised figures. The BJP official suggested the coalition had exaggerated turnout numbers to project greater political momentum ahead of forthcoming electoral contests.
The INDIA bloc, an alliance of opposition parties formed to counter the BJP's political dominance, has been actively staging public events to mobilise voter support. Discrepancies over crowd sizes at political rallies frequently become contentious during India's high-stakes electoral cycles, with opposing camps routinely presenting conflicting assessments of attendance figures.
