BJP stages dual protests against fare, milk price hikes in Karnataka

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party took to the streets in both Hubballi and Dharwad districts on Friday to voice their opposition against what they termed regressive economic policies. The protests targeted twin decisions by the Congress government: the elevation of bus fares operated under the state transport corporation and a spike in milk prices affecting consumers across the region.

BJP activists alleged that the fare and price increases would place an undue financial strain on ordinary citizens, particularly those already grappling with inflation and economic pressures. The party characterized the measures as anti-poor and argued they undermined the government's responsibility to shield vulnerable sections of society from rising costs.

The demonstrations reflected broader concerns about the affordability of essential services and commodities in Karnataka's semi-urban centers. Public transport and dairy products remain critical to daily life for working-class and middle-class families in these districts, making price movements a politically sensitive issue.

The protests add to mounting criticism the Congress administration has faced from opposition quarters over its fiscal policies. The BJP has positioned itself as a defender of consumer interests ahead of broader political contests in the state.
