Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party would return to power in Uttar Pradesh and prioritise the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the state. "When the government comes to power this time, the UCC will be implemented in Uttar Pradesh," Shah stated, reinforcing the party's commitment to the contentious legislative agenda. The Home Minister cited the precedent of several other states that have already adopted the UCC framework, suggesting that implementation in India's most populous state would follow an established pattern. The Uniform Civil Code has emerged as a significant political flashpoint in Indian electoral discourse, with supporters arguing it ensures legal uniformity across religious communities while critics contend it risks undermining minority rights and personal law traditions. Shah's statement signals the BJP's intention to make the UCC a central plank of its campaign strategy for the state, where assembly elections remain a crucial political battleground.
