BJP touts Centre's development record in Andhra Pradesh amid poll season

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday moved to counter criticism of the Centre's performance in Andhra Pradesh, pointing to investments in irrigation projects, infrastructure development and employment generation through Direct Recruitment Cells (DRC) as evidence of sustained central support.

Senior BJP leaders stressed the government's role in advancing flagship projects including the Polavaram irrigation scheme and developmental initiatives in the proposed Amaravati capital region. They characterised recent statements by the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) as misrepresentations designed to mislead voters ahead of forthcoming local body polls.

The assertions come as political parties intensify their campaigns in the southern state, with competing claims over credit for development work. The BJP maintained that coordinated efforts between the Centre and state authorities have resulted in concrete progress on long-pending projects that benefit the region's agricultural and economic base.

Party representatives emphasised the availability of central funds and schemes accessible to local administrations, arguing that the NDA government has remained committed to Andhra Pradesh's development priorities. Officials urged voters to base electoral decisions on verifiable progress rather than what they described as distorted narratives from rival political camps.

The regional political contest reflects broader efforts by national parties to consolidate influence in state-level contests across India's diverse political landscape.
