Actor and activist Prakash Raj has levelled serious allegations against the BJP, accusing the party of exploiting voter deletion mechanisms to gain electoral advantage. Speaking on the issue, Raj characterised the practice as tantamount to "electoral genocide," arguing that the removal of voters from official rolls represents a systematic disenfranchisement effort.
Raj pointed to the scale of deletions, stating that more than 13 crore voters have been struck off electoral registers. He emphasised that these actions have been carried out using existing legal provisions and government machinery, underscoring that the deletions operate within the bounds of current law despite their impact.
The actor stressed that the issue extends beyond mere statistical concerns. "These are not just numbers," Raj said, highlighting that each deleted voter represents an individual whose democratic rights have been curtailed. He referred to the deletions as the effective termination of voters' legal participation in elections.
The allegations tap into ongoing concerns about electoral integrity in India, where periodic voter list management has drawn scrutiny from election observers and opposition parties. The issue has become increasingly contentious during election cycles, with critics arguing that systematic deletions disproportionately affect certain communities and marginalised groups.
